Rabat at Night

Kasbah of the Udayas at Night

Kasbah of the Udayas at Night

I had a pricey but lovely dinner at Restaurant Dinarjat in the old medina of Rabat. I was told that I could get out of the medina very easily since there is an exit not too far away from here. The medina of Rabat is much ore pleasant than the other medinas that I have been do. For one thing, what would have been alleys in other medinas are actually streets which probably would accommodate even a car. However, the medina is off limits to vehicular traffic as I found out the first night I was here. The markets hare are not the crazy mayhem that I saw elsewhere either. All of these make walking around the medina a much more pleasurable experience.

I quickly found the exit out of the medina. I ended up at what turned out to be the main road which runs by the promenade. This is perfect since I wanted to take photos of the Kasbah of the Udayas at night. I remember the taxi passing by this place the first night and I reminded myself to come back here the next time I am in Rabat. The kasbah itself it lit up like a jewel. The walls from the promenade area to the museum of the Udayas at the top is all lit up. It is great of night shots obviously. There were still people walking around here and even taking photos. It seems that people really like this area.

I continued on to work towards the promenade and I can also see that medina area of the kasbah can be clearly see here with the highest point marked by a minaret. I now know that there is a residential area here, I guess that is where the lights are coming from. The walls of the kasbah unfortunately, aren’t lit up. It would have been nice to see that. I don’t know how high the tide goes here but I don’t think it would be high enough to ruin any lighting. Just like in the day time, there were people still hanging out here but seeing how dark the promenade itself is, I don’t think I would like to stay here that long. Not to say that it felt unsafe but more because I wasn’t familiar with the place to be sure.
