I was in the city of Milan for only a day. I will be flying out that evening and in the meantime, I wanted to see some sights which Milan is famous for. I ended up going to the Piazza del Duomo which is one of the largest squares in the city. As the name implies, the piazza is also where the Duomo or cathedral is. Excluding Saint Peter’s Basilica which is in the Vatican state, Milan Cathedral is the largest cathedral in Italy. It is also the fifth largest in the world. Obviously, such a massive building deserves a visit and sure enough there was a queue to get in the basilica. I didn’t have the time to queue so I just purchased the express ticket. The ticket also provides entry to the rooftop lift.

As you can see, the Milan Cathedral is so massive that it is hard to appreciate the details of the cathedral because it is just so huge. Some details would be so far above that visitors won’t even be able to see them anymore. The rooftop tour allow visitors to see some parts of the cathedral which are not visible from the ground. I thought it was a little strange to offer a rooftop tour but if I remember correctly, Saint Peter’s Basilica also offered a rooftop tour, so this is not something novel. Once on the roof, visitors would be able to see the more details of the basilica. I would like to see a tour of the facade of the basilica since that is what most people see from the ground but I don’t think that it even possible.
