I only had several hours to see some sights in the city of Milan and I thought to just stay in the city center which basically means that Piazza del Duomo, where Milan Cathedral is. It is hard to resist the pull of the cathedral since it is one of the largest cathedrals in the world. Looking at it, it is very different in design from the other churches that I have seen in Italy. In fact, it is very similar to the amazing gothic churches that I see in France. This should not be surprising since the up and coming styles for churches was this fancy new gothic style that is popular in France.

Because the church building is so big, it is hard to appreciate the details of the church. Visitors can purchase a ticket to go to the roof top for a tour. Here visitors can see up close some details which is almost impossible to see from the ground. While I have seen a few churches which were classified as gothic, I never really saw the classical gothic that I have come to understand in the style. Looking at the designs on display here are the room, one can see how much of a gothic church this place actually is. It is a wonder that these details were still done considering that no one will be able to see them. I don’t know if they had roof top tours back then but I think not too many people would have been able to see these.
