There in the distance was a lone church by the mountains. Behind it are towering peaks with the tallest ones topped by snow. The field in front of the church is flat and likewise covered in snow. If this isn’t idyllic, I don’t what is. The Church of Saint John at Val di Funes is one of the points of interests here in Val di Funes, a valley nestled within the Dolomites in Italy. There is a nice little viewing area for visitors to appreciate the scenery. One might think that this would be a perfect place for those coin operated binoculars you would see in tourist spots. While it is not exactly coin operated, there is actually a telescope nearby.

Cleverly hiding in plain sight, there is a wooden telescope set up at the viewing area. This is a proper telescope and visitors can use it to get a closer look at the church. I thought that it was very charming to have something like that here. I didn’t plan on going to the church itself since it seems like it would take some time to get there and I still have somewhere else to go to. I can only look through the telescope and just imagine that I was there. I know, I was already there, I should have just gone. I think if evening weren’t fast approaching, I would have gone but there is still another spot I needed to go to, so I would have to leave it be.
