I was exploring the town of Cividale del Friuli in Northern Italy. While one of the places which I thought to visit is the Ponte del Diavolo or Devil’s Bridge, it isn’t the primary reason why I came here. As you might suspect, there is a UNESCO World Heritage site here in the town. It is actually a specific place within the town, which surprised me, since I have been to places where the entire town or city is included in the list. I was walking inside the narrow alleys of the town while making my way to the site.

Google Maps was surprisingly very useful here though I think because the actual site is very large, it isn’t able to tell me where to go in. I was actually right beside the site but I don’t see anything but walls. I followed the walls until it led me to a small square. It is an old village square which I suspect was more important then than it is now. There are two major structures here in the square. There is a church on one side of the square and there is the monastery of whose walls I was following and led me to this square. My eyes were immediately drawn toward the church. This is the Church of Saints Peter and Blaise. Apparently, there used to be two smaller chapels here but they were destroyed by floods. The old chapels were then incorporated into the church we see now. The church looks like it is very old especially with the frescoes that are painted on its walls. I would like to take a closer look at this church.
