Val di Funes is considered to be one of the most beautiful places in the the Dolomites. I only happened to see a photo of the place and that’s how I decided that I would go there. I took a winding road through the mountains to get here, and small as the town may be, it was not exactly very tourist friendly. I found a spot to view one of the churches here. The Church of Saint John sits that the foot of the mountains here and it is surrounded by flat land. It was a strange place to put a church since normally, you would have it near where the people are. However, this one is a bit removed from town.

I parked the car along the road to hopefully take a very quick photo of the scenery. There is a viewing area behind the fencing which allows you to see the famous view. It is indeed a glorious sight to see this since the church is dwarfed by the mountains and then by the Dolomites behind. Additionally, the sun was starting to go down and it was illuminating the rugged mountains in the background. It is a unique view that you can only see here. Although there were a handful of people here with me, there weren’t as many as I expected considering that this is one of the most picturesque spots in the Dolomites.
