Frozen Lago di Braies
Frozen Lago di Braies

It seems like I was on a tour of the more popular lakes in the Dolomites. I will not be able to visit all of them since some of them would require a bit of hiking to reach. My next lake is the Lago di Braies. It is one of the most popular lakes in the Dolomites and it is for good reason. Like a lot of the lakes here the lake also has that turquoise colored water which comes from the minerals that are dissolved in the water. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to see that since it was December and the lake has already frozen over. According to the internet, Lago di Braies is two hundred meters higher than Lago di Dobbiaco, that might account for Lago di Braies already freezing over.

You can tell that Lago di Braies is popular because this place actually has paid parking. Despite the thick snow, there were still a lot of people here much to my surprise. There is also a large hotel in the area which overlooks the lake. I think it would be a magical experience to stay in the hotel when the lake is in its full unfrozen glory. For now, I would have to content myself with another frozen lake. I don’t get to see this kind of thing that much so I just enjoy it however way I can.
