The city of Cortina d’Ampezzo is known as a ski resort nestled up in the Italian Alps. I actually never heard of this place until I decided to go around the Dolomites as part of this visit to Northern Italy. As you can see, Cortina d’Ampezzo is quite well developed and it has been a well known ski destination for more than a hundred years. I honestly can’t imagine how people would be going on ski holidays a hundred years ago but Cortina d’Ampezzo is one of these places on their lists. The city center is also well catered to visitors of all shapes and sizes. I am not one to go skiing myself but I think just the prospect of seeing people skiing is already interesting to me.

The city center is roughly built around what is the city’s main street Corso Italia. It is now a pedestrian zone which is full of shops and restaurants. I was actually walking up and down this street earlier looking for a place to eat but none of them really interested me. I ended up eating at a pizzeria at the end of the street. Still, it is a great place to just walk along Corso Italia but it seems that it was a bit late in the night and the shops have already closed. Maybe I shouldn’t have been to lazy to come down here to at least have a look around. I can see that there is some ice on the ground, so I need to be a careful walking around.
