I was making my way through the Italian Alps and I can’t help but admire the scenery here. There aren’t too many tall mountains where I live and seeing this is a breath of fresh air. It was hard to be driving alone and desperately trying to keep yours eyes from wandering because of the beautiful scenery. Curiously, there weren’t too many places to stop along the way and I was only glad that I got to the town of Santa Caterina that I was able to find a stop. And what a stop it was.

There is man-made lake river beside the town. The water comes from the mountains and it carries with it minerals which turn the water a beautiful turquoise color. I don’t know which came first but it seems like they picked a great place to build the dam. The area is wide enough that you can see the mountains in the distance. Which provides an incredible backdrop to the view of the man-made lake. This is no tourist spot, at least, I don’t think it is. This is just one random stop I saw on my way through the mountains. Additionally, it was winter and there are even less people here. Looking at the water you can see how it appears to be starting to freeze over. I don’t know if it is does but I won’t be surprised if it freezes over in the winter.
