Roman Floor Mosaic at the Domus of Tito Macro in Aquileia

The Domus of Tito Macro in Aquileia is another of these important archeological sites that have been unearthed in the city of Aquileia. The site is said to be the largest domus or dwelling found in Northern Italy. Like a lot of these places, this place is also adorned with Roman floor mosaic. I can see that there are large parts were aren’t there anymore but there are portions of the sites which have them magnificently preserved. It is also a wonder to me that visitors are allowed to walk around here consider the age of the site.

The Domus of Tito Macro it estimated to have been in use more than two thousand years ago. It has been in continuous use for centuries after that. As for the name, they found an artifact with the name of Tito Macro who in the site. He was a rich resident of Aquileia and they just thought to ascribe the site to him. I was careful walking around the site and I don’t want to be trampling on the mosaic if I could help it. For a while there, I was the only one at the site but this soon changed when a load of kids were approaching in what appears to be a field trip. I quickly made my way out of the site and moved on.
