My next place to see is the Domus of Tito Macro. As I have seen here in Aquileia, the walls don’t really last very long. They have probably been cannibalized for other structures or just fallen into disrepair. This is the same for the Domus of Tito Macro. It is supposedly the largest domus or house that has been uncovered in Northern Italy. The structure we see now is a modern structure which covers the site for the most part. It is still very much open and visitors can even see right into the place. However, what is important to see here in the domus cannot be seen from the outside. Which is why I purchased a ticket to have a look.

There is a walkway which goes around the domus but it still allows visitors to enter the site itself. Admittedly, it was hard for me to imagine what this place would have been since there are no walls and there are only the remains of the floor that can be seen here. It should surprise no one by now that there are Roman floor mosaic as well. This type of design seems to be very common back then since it isn’t the first time I have seen this type of design. In fact, I have seen this design outside Italy. I shouldn’t be surprised since the Roman empire spread through large parts of Europe that time.
