Aquileia has a lot of archeological treasures on the ground still waiting to be excavated. I have heard of stories how it is difficult to dig in Rome because they were bound hit some ancient Roman ruins. This is probably the same with Aquileia. Prime examples of these are the basilica and the domus not too far away. There were multiple levels of previous structures uncovered. The domus was a great showcase of this since it beautifully shows visitors that there are multiple levels of ruins waiting to be seen here. Not too far away from the domus and episcopal palace is yet another domus or house. This time, it has a name attached to it.

The Domus of Tito Macro is said to be the largest house that was unearthed in Northern Italy. This archeological site is set up rather differently compared to the previous site. The Domus of Tito Macro is more open. There is no air conditioned museum but rather an archeological site with a roof above it almost feeling like it was a house. I approached the site and I saw that there was a walkway going to the domus. I thought that I could just walk in to the site but someone approached me from out of nowhere and sold me a ticket to get in the site. I was under the impression that this would have been included as part of some ticket but this wasn’t the case for me.
