I think I have spent too much time here in the Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta in Aquliea. I know I still have places to go to after this and I was still one my first stop. I know I have a car to make things quicker but I think this made things worse since I know I can cram more things into a day than ever before. I finally finished my visit to the basilica but that is only the basilica. There are still places to see around the church itself and I made my way outside the church. The first structure I would see is the bell tower.

I guess by now, it should be normal to see a church with a bell tower especially in Europe. This bell tower is separate from the basilica structure and it stands on its own. The tower is more or less the same age as the basilica but parts of it were enhanced over the years. In particular, the top was updated in the sixteenth century. I understand that might be possible to go up the bell tower but at the time of my visit, the door was closed. While it would be nice to see around the Aquileia area, I dread to have to walk up such a tall tower.
