It was that time of the year again and it was time for me to clear my vacation days. I have this bad habit of not planning any vacation and my boss can attest to that. Like the previous years, I found out late that I still have days to use, so I scrambled to find a place to go to. I have been fortunate to have been able to visit quite a few nearby countries and much as I try to avoid repeating. Some countries are just that good to visit. I eventually chose to visit Italy. Naturally, I would be visiting a different region of Italy but in this case, I would first need to fly into Venice.

If you have been paying any attention to this blog, I have been to Venice years ago. That trip was with friends and since they came from far away, they wanted to see as much as possible within a short period of time. I compare this to an “amazing race” type of trip where you run from one place to another just to tick the boxes. Hopefully, it won’t be anything like that this time since I am traveling alone. My port of entry would be Venice even though I won’t be visiting Venice itself. I would be visiting the surrounding area.
I landed at Venice Marco Polo Airport past ten in the evening. It was too late to do any sightseeing so I planned on just staying here for a night and leaving the next day. There is a guest house not too far away from the airport named Locazione Turistica. There are no staff in the premises though someone helped let me in the grounds when I called. As long as you know the pin number you are grand. I got a common room in the guest house but there didn’t seem to be anyone else there at the time. So it felt like I got the entire place all to myself.
The room itself was simple but functional. The bed was clean and big. The room itself was very spacious and more than I needed. There was a bathroom and shower along the common hallway and since there didn’t seem to be anyone else in the guest house, I didn’t need to wait for anyone to finish doing their business. It is not the prettiest place to stay in but if you are like me who flies in and leaves the next day, then this is a very good option. Oh prior to checking in, I needed to pay for a tourist fee. It was weird to be paying for the Venice tourist fee even if I wasn’t going to Venice itself but it seems to be a requirement.
