Buck Canyon in Canyonlands National Park
Buck Canyon in Canyonlands National Park

I was at the Buck Canyon overlook in Canyonlands National Park and it seems like the place doesn’t run out of places to show visitors. There are wide vistas to see here with of course the famed canyons for which the entire park was named for. I thought the name of the park was not very creative but it is probably the most appropriate name they could give the place. There are several canyons to visit here and that is just the ones which are easily accessible to the visitor. If you have a four wheel drive, you can get on the dirt roads and see the less accessible ones yourself.

Buck Canyon is one of the major canyons here in the park. The viewing deck is on a ledge which partly forms the canyon. From the viewpoint you can see a vast canyon carved out by the Colorado river. However, that isn’t all, the canyon floor also reveals a another canyon which goes even deeper. Yes, it is a canyon within a canyon. I don’t know if it is just the lighting but the deeper canyon seems to be much rougher compared to the level above it. I am not sure which one would be the actual Buck Canyon here or perhaps the entire thing is already the Buck Canyon. And yes, visitors can get up close to the inner canyon via four wheel drive. It is a shame at the park doesn’t provide an easy way for normal visitors to get there.
