Looking at Buck Canyon in Canyonlands National Park
Looking at Buck Canyon in Canyonlands National Park

It is no surprise that Canyonlands National Park was named as such. There are numerous canyons here in the sprawling park. I know that it isn’t even remotely close to the size of the Grand Canyon National Park, which by the way is almost four times bigger. The vastness of the park and the knowledge that not all of the park is easily accessible certainly adds to the feeling of awe in this place. The canyons in the park seem to go forever and just as soon as you finish visiting or looking at one, when another one pops up. I was following the Island in the Sky driving route and it brings me to a portion of the overall park.

There are a few sights along the driving route and because of the size of the park, the driving route branches off in a few places. I finally made it back to the main route and I was making my way to Buck Canyon. There is a viewpoint here to appreciate the incredible scenery. The canyons are so wide that one might forget that these are canyon. Looking on, you can see that there are also canyons in the canyon. Such is the power of nature. There are actually two major rivers nearby. In this case, it is the Colorado River at work here. It can be hard to remember which is which here but at least in the case of Buck Canyon, the Colorado is the main agent of erosion.
