I was on the Devil’s Garden trail making my way back to the trailhead because I thought I have seen most of the major sights here in the area. I even saw a sign for a Tunnel Arch which I thought to ignore. Looking around, I didn’t notice any significant arch and was preparing to keep going but a fellow visitor was telling me to go there and have a look, it seems that there really was something interesting there. It was only then that I noticed that the Tunnel Arch wasn’t along the trail itself. In fact, it only goes somewhere where you can see the arch.

Following the trail, I found out that the Tunnel Arch is on the right side of the visitor and it was big. There was a wall of sandstone and there was a round hole in the middle. I think there is a hole on top of the structure and it tunnels a hole down to the middle of the walls where it broke through the stone. While that itself was already interesting to see since it is one of the larger structures around here, that wasn’t what was so great about it. By sheer coincidence, the sun was shining right through the hole that very moment. There is a very small window where you can see this and I was thankful to that visitor who told me about it. I also told some nearby visitors about it who were also giving Tunnel Arch a pass. It was almost like a total solar eclipse, within a few minutes, the sun had moved on and it doesn’t shine through the hole anymore. I guess it is a lesson for me not to ignore any sign they have here since these places have been carefully curated for most visitors. I was incredibly lucky to have seen this phenomenon and I have that nameless visitor to thank for this.
