Skyline Arch is the latest stop in my visit to Arches National Park. It seems I am finally getting my fill of sandstone arches, of which Arches National Park is famous for. There is a short trail to follow to get to Skyline arch. I just started on the trail, and I can already see the arch. I thought that it shouldn’t be that far away, if I can already see it from here but it turned out to be much further than I expected. Further in I walked, the higher the arch seemed to go. That’s when I realized where it got its name.

The Skyline Arch is an arch that formed when a sandstone wall formed a hole near the top of its rather flat top. Up close, the hole it much higher than I anticipated. The Skyline Arch is an example of how erosion is still continuing up to this day. There is a photo of Skyline Arch where the hole was still around half as large. However, a large chunk of the wall fell, thereby enlarging the hole. I’m sure parts of the boulder which fell are still here but I just can’t tell which one. There are several large boulders at the foot of the arch, there is a strong possibility that these used to be part of the sandstone wall.
