Hickman Bridge at Capitol Reef National Park from Afar
Hickman Bridge at Capitol Reef National Park from Afar

So far I have been taking the easy way in visiting Utah’s national parks. I managed to do a minimal amount of hiking while doing a maximum amount of driving. I like how the national parks can cater for these two very different types of visitors. However, it seems that my luck has ran out. My next stop is the Hickman Bridge and unfortunately for me, the said bridge isn’t anywhere near the car park. To get to the bridge one would need to go on a hike to see it. I have seen a few natural bridges here in Utah but I know that each of them are unique and I was thinking that if they made a whole trail just to get there, then maybe it really is worth going there.

The trail starts from the car park, and makes its way up the cliffs. It initially follows the Fremont river then the trail deviates as you go higher up. The elevation gain here is still manageable for me but with me in less than perfect shape, I was already struggling to go up. There is no rush to go up since I could always take my time to make my way to the natural bridge. The trail leads to a clearing where you can see the Hickman Bridge. From here it was still rather small and honestly unimpressive. However, it looks like visitors can go right up to the Hickman Bridge and get a closer look.
