Closer Look at the Hoodoos at Ponderosa Canyon at Bryce Canyon National Park

There are several stops along the main driving route of Bryce Canyon National Park. Since, I’m a hiker only in name, I appreciate how driving visitors get to experience most of what the park has to offer, that it without exhausting myself out. Visitors can stop at these stops to appreciate the view, which I assume were carefully curated by the park management to save visitors time during their visit. I was making my way down to the visitor’s center and there is a stop for Ponderosa Canyon. Since this stop actually has a name, I would think that this is more significant.

As usual, there is a viewing area here. Much like Black Birch Canyon, Ponderosa Canyon is named are the trees which grow here. Technically, not true for Black Birch Canyon, see a previous post for more information about that. Ponderosa refers to Ponderosa pines which grow not near the viewing area but on the canyon floor. For people who know their trees, this might be confusing, since they won’t see any Ponderosa pines at the viewing area. Rest assured, they are here just far below where the viewing area is. I didn’t even know about this but I already appreciate how nice the canyon looks like. As you can see the colors are really very nice and even the hoodoos are still well formed.
