For years, I had my eye on visiting Zion National Park some day, and I was blessed enough to be able to afford going there myself. While I was at it, I might as well try to see the other national parks within the state. Zion is the first park I visited here in Utah. When I told someone that I dreamed of going to Zion National Park someday, I was told to go see the Narrows. It seems that it is one of the most popular activities to do in Zion. I actually had to do a little research on it and it turns out it involves the Virgin River.
The Virgin River is the master carver of Zion National Park, and it is as important as the Colorado River is to the Grand Canyon. At least in this part of the park, the river doesn’t seem to have the water volume that you might attribute to the one which carved Zion. Looking around the area, you can see how the canyon walls are so high. This means that the river started eroding the sandstone from the top and slowly created these cliffs that we see today. I was also great that the sun has finally come out. Unfortunately, with all of these sheer cliffs around me, it would be hard to illuminate the inside of the canyon unless it was directly above. It was almost winter and as you know, the sun tends to be lower in the sky. I would imagine it would be better in the summer but I don’t think I would want to be broiled alive here.
