As I was approaching the Canyon Overlook Trailhead, or rather trail, in my case, I noticed that there are more people making their way up to the viewing area. I know that I didn’t get to see any spectacular sunrise here but I was also glad that I was already done with my visit. It still isn’t crowded as all since it was low tourist season anyway, I don’t expect a lot of people here in the first place. At least if you do encounter people going the other way, it is easy enough to move over to one side and let them pass.
I can already hear the sounds of vehicles passing by. The trailhead is along the main road going out of Zion National Park. One will note that there is a mountain in the way. For this, they dug a tunnel to connect both sides of the mountain, making it easier to travel in the process. It was dug in the 1920s and at that time, the Zion-Mount Carmel Tunnel was the long tunnel tunnel of its type. That’s almost a century ago. It is mind-blowing that this tunnel was built that long ago. There is a one way system in place here. I can see how there would be vans which will never be able to fit in a single lane. It makes sense to just limit traffic to one lane where each lane would take turns to pass through the tunnel, this way there won’t be any chance of collisions.
