I was slowly making my way up along one of Zion National Park’s more well known trails – Watchman’s Trail. This is not the most famous of the trails here in the park but this is one of the most accessible ones since it starts very near the visitor center. It is also not overly long as visitors can complete it in around two hours. I don’t know if I can complete it in two hours but I am in no hurry. The slope is gentle but not knowing where the destination is makes me worry that it might get dark when I start to go down. I didn’t have a headlamp with me so it isn’t a good idea to be hiking in the dark without it. At this point, it seems like everyone that I would see along the trail is going the opposite way, if something were to happen to me, no one would know.

There isn’t a story behind the name of the trail. It was conceived as an easy trail that is also close to the visitor center. The watchman part is probably because it overlooks much of the valley where the visitor center and Springdale is. I am a long way from reaching the end of the trail and I was already tired. I knew that I would be coming here but I still didn’t have proper equipment with me. I even used running shoes to hike. The Watchman’s Trail is considered easy. Hopefully that means I would be able to complete it in good time. There isn’t much increase in elevation which makes it perfect for beginners too.
