Climbing the Avondale Forest Park Viewing Tower

I was quite surprised to see an enormous viewing tower in the middle of a forest park. I thought it didn’t really blend in well with the surroundings but it is here so I might as well have a look. The tower was designed by Josef Stöger and it is one of several similar looking structures in the world. There are various shapes for these viewing towers but the one here in Avondale is and almost cylindrical shape which somewhat tapers towards the top. The viewing tower certainly is tall and it is worth climbing. The spiral walkway which goes around the tower gently slopes upward and you don’t really notice the gradient. Because of this, it would take a while to get to the top.

The tower is primarily made of wood and it is a wonder how they made a wooden structure this tall. There is still metal here but it is mostly to support the structure. The walkway itself, even the pillars are wood for the most part. I heard that there were a lot of visitors here when it first opened, fortunately, all the fuss seemed to have died down but there are still a good number of visitors here. I know that there would be a view from the top but I wonder how much can you actually see here since it is just a lot of greenery here. I don’t think I would be that impressed. If it was taller then that might impress me more.
