I left the city of Trier probably earlier than I should because I still have to get on a train to Frankfurt, where I would be spending the next few nights. In my rush, I realized that I totally missed one of the major landmarks in Trier. What I thought was the major church in Trier apparently, wasn’t the one I visited. No wonder I was underwhelmed. It was too late for that already. I got on a train heading for Frankfurt. I had to justify leaving early by thinking that it will take me more than three hours to get to Frankfurt, so I can’t really stay that long.

It was a rather long train ride but the train ride was uneventful. Because it was winter, I ended up arriving in Frankfurt when it got dark. I knew that the hotel wasn’t that far from the train station but I still needed to find it. I realized that the general area of the train station wasn’t that nice. There were people scattered all around and the place didn’t seem to be very nice. This was in total contrast to how it is in Köln. Frankfurt is definitely the bigger city but it didn’t inspire confidence to see the place so dodgy.

I eventually found my hotel for the night – Memphis Hotel. The hotel is nestled in a row of restaurants which I noticed are all foreign cuisines. I was excited to see this and I was hoping I would be able to try something different for a change. The check in process for Memphis Hotel was smooth and I got a room at the top floor. The have an old school elevator where you have to open the door yourself. I think the last time I have rode on that kind of elevator was in Hong Kong.

As I expected, the room at Memphis Hotel was small. The room was tidy and it had its own shower and bathroom. At least I don’t have to queue to use the bathroom. The bed isn’t that large but I fit so it was fine. I ended up spending three nights here and I thought it was a great and affordable place to stay in. It was only an eight minute walk to the train station so it was very convenient for me since I would be using it often. Regarding the dodginess of the area, after walking through the area a few times, I got rid of any uneasiness I had about the area.
