Around the Horseshoe Bend

Horseshoe Bend at Page Arizona

I was very pleased with the Horseshoe Bend at Page in Arizona. I saw a photo of this place in the car rental guy’s profile photo and I wondered where it was. I didn’t even have a name for the place but little did I know that I was already heading towards it. The Horseshoe Bend is a natural meander of the Colorado River and it is bigger than I imagined it would be. It is tough to fit the entire bend into a single photo though you might have better luck with a phone which can take panoramic shots. I went there early in the morning hoping to beat the tourist crowd, and while there certainly were people there it wasn’t as bad as I feared.

Page probably doesn’t get as much tourist traffic as it should because it is quite a bit out of the way. However, those who do make the effort to come here will be rewarded with amazing desert scenery. This is not the only way to explore the Horseshoe Bend though. It is possible to ride a boat which takes visitors here. I know there are several points where you can take the boat but I think one starting from the Lees Ferry further away would be a great place to start.
