Basilica of Saint-Remi

The reason what I visited the city of Reims is that it has access to a few UNESCO world heritage sites. In fact, the city itself has three. Unfortunately, I am traveling in not so ideal circumstances, first of all, there is the ongoing pandemic. There is nothing much I can do about that. I decided that I would be traveling but at the same time I would be keeping myself safe from infection by using a mask at all times. This is easier said than done because of the second issue I have – my backpack. I am carrying my backpack because I still don’t have a room at the hotel I was going to be staying at and because the receptionist is a machine, there was no one that can help me.

Hopefully, I will have the strength to go around the city with the backpack with me. For now, I have to start. I was blessed with beautiful clear skies and I thought that at least it was clear and I think my photos would look very good. The Basilica of Saint-Remi is described to be the largest Romanesque church in northern France. I would believe that. Looking at the basilica from the outside you can see that the church is also long. While this is probably typical back in the day, it is still very impressive to see buildings of this size. The church dates back to the 11th century and has been expanded over the years. The church is built on top of an old chapel where Saint-Remi was buried.
