Luke’s Bridge

Luke’s Bridge

I saw a marker for Luke’s Bridge on Google Maps and didn’t think there was anything special about it. It seemed like it was just a simple bridge and nothing more. Curiosity got the better of me since I couldn’t figure out why would it even be deemed worthy of a camera marker. So I decided to go visit it. The place is very near the Benbulben mountain which dominates this part of county Sligo. When I arrived at the spot, I was surprised to see a large number of vehicles here. I thought that I would be the only person here since the bridge didn’t seem to be that interesting. The parking is already backed up quite a bit so there was a little walking to get to Luke’s bridge.

Ultimately, there really wasn’t anything noteworthy about Luke’s Bridge. It is a simple bridge which crosses a small stream. It is sturdy enough to carry vehicles but that was about it. There is even a marker for Luke’s Bridge here but nothing which describes it. There are however some trails which start from this point. I can see that people do come here for the walking. This got me curious, what would be so nice to see here that would attract so many vehicles to come to the middle of what seems to be nowhere.
