Hiking Up the Torc Waterfall Viewpoint

The Torc Waterfall was a nice start to my exploration of the area around the town of Killarney. It is only a few minutes out of the town and it is a perfect place to explore. The Torc Waterfall is a waterfall of modest height. The water volume no doubt enhanced by the recent rains in the area. And frankly, that’s pretty much all you can do at the waterfall. There is a long flight of stairs behind the viewing platform and it goes all the way to the top of the hill beside the waterfall. I was told there was a view of the lake from the top but not much. I decided to climb up anyway.

The climb wasn’t very steep but note that there are no guard rails here so it is best to be careful when climbing up. I doesn’t take long to get to the top, just that I wasn’t prepared to be climbing today. I guess it is to be expected when going to places like these. The stairs levels off at what is supposed to be a viewing platform. Indeed you can see the lake from here, through the trees. As you can see in the photo, there are several trees in the way so the view isn’t really that great. What I did notice was that the lake area seems to be quite bright. This gave me hope that at least some parts of the day would have nice weather.
