Broadhaven Lighthouse

Broadhaven Lighthouse

Because I didn’t know how long the hike at Erris Head Loop would take, I decided to cut it short and retrace my steps. I didn’t want to get stuck hiking after the sun goes down. I would want to walk Erris Head next time but I need to be there earlier in the day. I managed to get back to car park and started heading out of Belmullet Peninsula. But before that, I wanted to make a quick stopover. There is a lighthouse not too far from the crossing back to county Mayo. Broadhaven Lighhouse is a landmark in the village of Ballyglass.

Broadhaven Lighthouse from the Outside

Broadhaven lighthouse is another one of Ireland’s excellent lighthouses. The lighthouse itself sits on the compound with a gate. Obviously, people are not meant to be going to the lighthouse but you can always take a photo of it from the outside. It would have been nice to see the lighthouse from the side but the only view to be had is the one from the main gate itself. I would have wanted a photo of the lighthouse with the water but there didn’t seem to be a path. This particular lighthouse was built in 1855. Over the years it has been upgraded. Like most lighthouses, this one is painted white. And unlike the lighthouse at Blacksod, this is dedicated structure. The one at Blacksod looked more like a house with a light installed on top.
