The Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall 国立中正纪念堂 is a massive building dedicated to the honoring Chiang Kai Shek who is a prominent figure in the history of modern Taiwan. There are various exhibits here in the memorial hall which involve anything about Chiang Kai Shek. There are the usual letters and photos of Chiang Kai Shek when he was young. I would probably start with the name. The other name I know which is used to refer to him is Jiang Zhongzheng 蒋中正. For the longest time, these names confused me since I didn’t think that Jiang Zhongzheng translated into Chiang Kai Shek, so I always wondered about this name. Turns out that Chiang Kai Shek is actually the Cantonese version of his Mandarin name Jiang Jieshi 蒋介石. The Chiang Kai Shek version of his name is probably the most well known one.

Chiang Kai Shek ruled Taiwan for a long time thus there was a lot of memorabilia from this time. There were all sorts of things on display here in the museum. While a lot of them were boring stuff like letters and photos. There were larger items on display, including a car which he was given by overseas Chinese. The museum actually extends underground so there was actually a lot of ground to cover here. These kinds of things don’t really interest me. However, I felt that since I was already here I might as well have a look. I don’t recall having visited this area the first time I was here so I might as well try to learn more about Taiwan’s history.
