The Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall 国立中正纪念堂 is one of Taipei’s most prominent lamdmarks. It rises above Liberty Square now serves as a reminder of the past and also one to urge the people to look to the future. Though the importance of Chiang Kai Shek has been downplayed in recent years, there is still no denying the importance of Chiang Kai Shek in modern Taiwan. The memorial hall serves as a place to pay respect to the founding father of modern Taiwan. This is not all just about the statue of Chiang Kai Shek, there are also other sections here in the memorial hall which serves as a museum for all things Chiang Kai Shek.

This place reminds me of the Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall which is also here in Taipei, though this one for Chiang Kai Shek is probably more flamboyant. Both have separate sections of the memorial hall which serve as a museum for various memorabilia. I won’t pretend to understand everything that was on display here since I wasn’t really familiar with the history of Taiwan. Probably in contrast to Sun Yat Sen, who is probably considered more of an intellectual, Chiang Kai Shek was a military leader and also ruled the island with an iron fist. Stories of his exploits are on display here in the memorial hall. If you are a history buff, then you would enjoy it here.
