Inside the Family Home of the Wojtylas

I dropped by the city of Wadowice on a whim and decided to pay the home city of Pope John Paul II a visit. The family home of Pope John Paul II is still here and has been turned into a museum for those interested to know more about the life of Poland’s most famous son. I didn’t really know where the family home actually was but it turned out that the home was the house right beside the basilica. All of a sudden it makes sense why he became a priest. We were finally let in to the museum. We were met by an elderly nun who seems to be the caretaker of the house.

The caretaker didn’t really speak that much, I think she was Italian. We were instead introduced to our tour guide who would be guiding us in the museum. The lobby naturally had a lot of Pope John Paul II memorabilia. There were exhibits which described his early life. People don’t know much about Pope John Paul II before he became pope. Before he became larger than life, he was an ordinary kid named Karol Wojtyla. This apartment is the Wojtyla family home. Although I don’t think I was ever a Pope John Paul II fan, I got interested in knowing more about him now that I am here.
