As it turns out, the tomb that I saw on top of the mountain wasn’t a tomb at all. It was a watch tower. It is totally beyond me why they would build a watch tower which would look like the tombs which lay a short distance away from the tower itself. The watch tower wasn’t really that tall at all when you consider its purpose since it just uses the mountain to get just a little more altitude. Anyway, these piles of rocks here in the field are real tombs. Much of the people who were buried here are well off people, which can be deduced from the kind of material used to build the tomb. Most are noblemen of Korguryo society. I didn’t see any tombs from ordinary folk. Could it be that they were just non-descript mounds much like how it is done by the Chinese?

My guide didn’t mention about this and he just kept telling me how this tomb houses a rich nobleman or that tomb was not as rich as this guy. Pretty soon, just like visiting Chinese temples, I soon became tired of seeing the tombs. The don’t really do anything and to the untrained eye, there are really just a nice pile of earth or rocks. We circled around a fields walking by a few tombs when we started heading back. Finally, maybe something more interesting that this?
