Let’s face it, Singapore doesn’t have natural attractions like the Philippines or cultural attractions like Cambodia. So how do you attract visitors if you do not have any of these? You make malls. Lots of them. Shopping is a national pastime in Singapore and it shows. Orchard Road is now synonymous with shopping in Singapore. The Great Singapore Sale is now a yearly event.

Of course, I do not have the luxury of going to El Nido every weekend. So like most people in Singapore, I would go to the mall. Not to buy anything in particular, but just to “mall”. One of my favorite haunts is quite a distance the city center. It is Vivo City. Vivio City is Singapore’s largest shopping mall. It occupies a huge plot of land just across Sentosa.

It has several levels of shops and it can take a while to visit the entire mall. The mall has a large atrium in the center where events are held. It then branches off into two directions each with their own set of distinct shops.

As with any other mall, there are a lot of places to eat here. In fact, there are two food courts, one on the top level, and another at the bottom. For shoppers with deeper pockets, there are a plethora of restaurants to choose from.

The roof deck is turned into something like a public park where people can sit a relax while looking at all the construction going on in Sentosa. There are shallow pools of water that let kids have fun in the water. There are also public art on display here.

Vivo City also houses a gigantic Giant supermarket. It is so huge it takes of two levels of a section of the mall. Vivo City also houses a cineplex showing a wide selection of the latest movies.

At night, Vivo City is a sight to behold as the lights are turned on. It is actually quite nice to just stay here and relax by the sea.

When visiting Vivo City, it would be advisable to come early as it can get really crowded in the afternoon. Also, if you plan to visit all of Vivo City, you definitely need to come early.

To get here just take the MRT, take the purple line and get off at Harborfront station. Follow the signs to Vivo City.
