Stables of Kladruby nad Labem
Stables of Kladruby nad Labem

We arrived in the small village of Kladruby nad Labem. It is obviously not a place which is flooded by tourists, in fact, we might be the only ones there. The village is best known for being the location of the Nation Stud Farm. That is where the horses used in ceremonial parades are bred and raised. This place has been in existence for four hundred years and it is one of the oldest in Europe. Not only that, there aren’t that many of them to begin with. The horses that are bred here are a local variety called the Kladruber, obviously named after the village. The horses are used during royal ceremonies though I don’t really know what makes the horse breed so special. I would imagine it would be good to have a consistent breed to use in ceremonies.

Most of the horses that are used the the white ones, though there are other colors which are used by other organizations. It is interesting to see how a tradition like this still persists even today in the era of electrics cars. I would agree that it is much more elegant to see a parade with the traditional horses compared to one which just vehicles. These horses are not just used within the country but they are also used by other nearby countries like Denmark. As a result of this continued use of this breed, the local landscape was ensured to be in aid of breeding and raises these beautiful creatures.
