I am here in Las Vegas for a few days just chilling away. I don’t really have anything planned here but if I would say I had anything in mind, then it would have to be food. I am hoping to be able to eat food that I wouldn’t normally be able to eat. Las Vegas seems to be a great place to do that since it has food from all over the world. Of course, I wouldn’t want to needlessly spend my money on very expensive food. In this case, I would rather have something simple for lunch then spend a little more for dinner. I decided that I would have ramen for lunch.

I ended up at the Chinatown area of Las Vegas which surprise, surprise, has a few Chinese restaurants. I think I have enough Chinese restaurants where I come from so there was no urgent need to eat Chinese food. However, I do want some nice ramen. Proper ramen has been hard to come by and I had to resort to making it myself using instant noodles, which sad to say are much better than what I can get normally. I found this place called Silverlake Ramen which seems to be a well known place. They bill themselves as the best in Los Angeles. Hopefully that I actually means something.
The entrance to the restaurant was strange. They have this reflective coating on the door which presumably helps keep the heat away, however it also makes it hard to tell if it was open or not. I still got in. It doesn’t have a feel of a typical Japanese restaurant but the proof is in the ramen. I got myself a bowl of black garlic tonkotsu ramen with a side of chicken karaage. While the broth was nice, it wasn’t up to the level which I would have preferred. The noodles have the right consistency and chewiness. It is way better than any ramen places where I live. I can say that was the best bowl of ramen that I had in years. As for their billing as the Best in Los Angeles? I can believe them. Great ramen is hard to find in the west apart from a few select cities. Silverlake Ramen is good and probably the best in Las Vegas, but I know there are better ones out there, maybe not in Las Vegas.
