Rough Road at the Bottom of the Canyon in Canyonlands National Park
Rough Road at the Bottom of the Canyon in Canyonlands National Park

Canyonlands National Park is my last stop in my whirlwind visit to the five national parks of the state of Utah. I am not sure here, but it feels like Canyonlands National Park is bigger than all the others. I guess it is primarily because of the canyons that are common here. The canyons can be very wide so it is natural that the entire park would be very large thought is still smaller than the Grand Canyon National Park. I already had a glimpse of the canyons present here in the park from Mesa Arch. That would just be the first of several that I would visit here in the park.

The park itself is divided into sections: Island in the Sky, the Needles, the Maze and the Rivers. The place is so large that I didn’t even get to visit most of it. I was only following the main driving route which is at the Island in the Sky. Looking at the map, there doesn’t seem to be a standard way of getting to the other parts. From one of the viewpoints in the park, I can see that there is a dirt road from the top going to the bottom of the canyon and further on. It seems that visitors can take a four wheel drive and take a multi-day journey along this trail. Let’s just say that if you were anything like me and just followed the main driving route, then this would be short visit. Of course, a proper visit to this park would entail multiple days and possibly a better vehicle, both of which I don’t have. I won’t complain, I would just take what I can.
