Fremont River at Capitol Reef National Park

Like a lot of similar looking national Parks, the Capitol Reef National Park has an associated river. Zion National Park has the Virgin River while the Grand Canyon of course has the Colorado River. Bryce Canyon, in case you were wondering, wasn’t created by a river but by wind and rain. Capitol Reef National Park on the other hand, has a river – Fremont River. I am still amazed at the fact that there is a river in this arid landscape. The Fremont River isn’t very large like the Colorado, however considering the circumstances, it is certainly quite significant to have a river here.

A lot of the land here at Capitol Reef National Park is just desert however, there are still canyons that were carved out by the Fremont River. Admittedly, they don’t look as spectacular as the other canyons I have seen and that is okay. Capitol Reef National Park is on the way anyway and I wouldn’t want to miss a national park just because I thought it wasn’t as nice as the others. The main road in Capitol Reef National Park follows the Fremont River and this is probably the case for the the people who first settled here.
