When I visited Bryce Canyon National Park, it was almost winter. It gets bitterly cold here in Bryce Canyon and I can already tell. However, winter also brings shorter days and I think that is a good opportunity for me since I can get an earlier sunset compared to other times of the year. I still need to get to where I would stay for the night and I would like to get there sooner than later. With sunset fast approaching I was wondering where I would want to set up to wait for sunset. There is the obvious Sunset Point and there is also the alternative Paria View. I decided to go have a look at Sunset Point first. I was actually here earlier in the day but I knew sooner or later I would need to come back here for sunset.

From the viewpoint at Sunset Point, I can see that the sun sets to the right of the viewer. There are numerous hoodoos on the left which can catch the setting sun’s rays which would lead to spectacular sunsets. I also realize that this area is also an amphitheater which means that the edges of the bowl of the amphitheater will be higher than the inside. I think this means that the sun will go behind the canyon walls sooner than actual sunset which would be a shame. However, this doesn’t mean that Sunset Point isn’t worth it. It is called Sunset Point for a reason, and it is because it is considered the best spot for sunset viewing.
