Inside the Zion Human History Museum

It seems that there is a museum here in Zion National Park. I always thought that the “museum” part of a national park would usually be at the visitor center. There is a bit of science to be had at the visitor center but Zion has a separate museum for human history. The museum building itself looks a little run down but you can still see people going there to learn. I only knew about the museum because I was on the map so I thought to drop by and have a look. I don’t really expect much from this museum but archeology isn’t something I’m that interested in.

The main museum area is not that big, but good enough for the subject. At the center is the requisite scale model of the area. The Grand Canyon also had something like this and I appreciate seeing this so I know how it actually looks like. It is hard to appreciate looking at a two dimensional map. The scale models are more effective at imparting this information. There several exhibits which describe the peoples of this land and their history. I know there are people who live here but it is hard for me to imagine that peoples we here in this harsh environment. There is also some information about more recent history including the time it was first discovered by westerners. There are several artifacts on display as well but like I said previously, I don’t have much interest in this kind of thing, I would be more keen on the geology part of the park.
