Hiking Back from Canyon Overlook at Zion National Park

Walking Along the Canyon Overlook Trail

Walking Along the Canyon Overlook Trail

I head back to the car from Canyon Overlook at Zion National Park with mixed emotions. I was happy to see the amazing view from the overlook. Visitors get to see a narrow section of the park where both sides are flanked by canyon walls. Far below you can see the canyon floor including the road which we took to get here. It seems that more people are awake now and you can see a steady stream of vehicles going up the canyon. Fortunately, I was already done and I was making my way back down to the car.

It was already morning and everything is much brighter now. Although it was morning, there was no sun around as it was overcast. In fact, it is almost threatening to rain. I always thought that rain is very rare in this part of the country and to actually be there when it happens is just bad luck at least from a tourist point of view. For now, it is still dry as I make my way down the trail. I didn’t get to appreciate the trail going up to the overlook since it was still dark. I was too busy making sure that I don’t fall or lose my footing.

Admittedly, the view along the trail isn’t much compared to the overlook but here you can see up close the work of mother nature of over the years. There was even an overhang which can serve as a makeshift shelter in case of rain. There are parts of the trail which can be a little dicey, but there are guardrails there to make sure people don’t fall. I really appreciate things like these here though I know that it isn’t the easiest place install things like these. I find it hard to imagine how park staff would need to bring tools and material to install things as simple as a guardrail. It is hard enough to just walk here, what more if you have heavy stuff with you.
