I got up early in the morning to climb up to Canyon Overlook in Zion National Park to hopefully catch a beautiful sunrise. This place is one of the recommended places to go to for sunrises. While I got there just as the sky was getting brighter, it was full blown daytime yet. As expected, I wasn’t the only one here. There were several people with good equipment already positioned to take photos of a potential sunrise. I also brought a tripod with me to make sure I get clear shots. Most of the people here just bring their phones with them and sometimes I wonder if I should just do the same thing since my camera isn’t really that light.
It was low season at Zion National Park and I don’t know how many people actually make the effort to catch the sunrise here, I was still pleasantly surprised to see that there were more than I expected. Each one of us tries to find their own rock to wait at. I didn’t exactly get a great spot but I still have a wide open view of the canyon below. This early in the morning, you can hear the sound of a sports car making their way up the road. The canyon walls probably help amplify the sound of the car but while I know it is their hobby, I don’t like the idea of the sound of a speeding car ruining the serenity of the morning. The car would be making their way up and down the road, apparently so they can take videos. I know this because I saw them on the way back down.
While the viewing point at Canyon Overlook isn’t that big. There weren’t too many of us here at least for this time of the year. I would think there would way more people here in the summer. That is exactly why I decided to visit this time of the year since I know there would be way less people and it is easier to go see a sunrise if the sun rises later in the day. Speaking of which, it doesn’t seem like the sun is gonna show up. It has been cloudy the whole morning and while the sun tries to break through the clouds, I don’t think it is in the cards this morning.
