Going to Caticlan Port

Boats at the Port of Caticlan

I was looking forward to this trip to the holiday island of Boracay in the Philippines. It has been years since I was last here and I have heard lots of stories about it. There were the initial stories about how bad it was managed, until it was finally shutdown by the national government in order to build the badly needed infrastructure. Now, it is open to the public again and I have heard lots of good news about it. I am on a trip with good friends and I look forward to seeing how much this island has changed, hopefully for the better.

For people who actually been to this blog, they would know that I don’t tend to spend too much for accommodations. However because it won’t be just me this time, I would be traveling in style for a change. I would be staying at one of the nicer resorts on the island and it seems that they have a shuttle service to pick up people at the airport. While the port isn’t that far away, it would be a little more challenging if you have kids with you. In case you do need a way to get to the island from the airport, there will be numerous kiosks at the airport terminal to help you get a ride.

We will be staying with the Henann Group of Resorts and they provide a pick up service from the airport to the island. There was someone waiting for us at the airport terminal and we were quickly whisked away to their waiting shuttle. The shuttle then brought us to their port. This is where everybody is registered. This is also a nice place to shelter from the blazing sun. After everything was sorted, we were led to the actual embarkation area which is just behind the port building. There is a beach here which has been turned into a port. What is nice is that they have a pontoons which passengers walk on to get to the boat. For people who are not surefooted, there will be staff helping you every step of the way, I would imagine this would be a little challenging if the water was rougher but it seems today is good.
