Porta Nigra at Trier

Porta Nigra at Trier

It was the day that I checked out of the hotel in Köln and I was ready to move on to another city to stay in but before that I wanted to drop by another place in Germany which happens to be more than two hours away. Trier is very near the border with Luxembourg but I won’t be going there right now. I’m actually surprised that the train itself doesn’t go all the way to Luxembourg, but rather stops at Trier. The train was very empty and you could say that this was a private train ride for me all the way to Trier.

It was also during this time that the temperature went further down. I can see that there was snow falling on the way to Trier but not that much when I got there. I did see that there are some patches of ice here so I still need to be careful. I will not be staying in Trier but that also means that I have all my stuff with me. It will not be an easy visit but at least I packed light and it was easier for me to move around. Trier was a significant city during the Roman times. As a result, there are several Roman era monuments that have been built over time. Needless to say, I am here to see these monuments.
