View of the Rhine from Rheinfels Castle

The Rheinfels Castle seemed to be closed for the season at the time of my visit. This isn’t the first time that I visited a place which was closed for the winter. I don’t know if looking it up online would have helped either. But there isn’t any turning back for me because I took an almost three hour train ride just to get here. I can only take photos of the castle which is visible from the outside. There seems to be more behind the castle walls but I can only get a peek for what is beyond it but looking around the wall from the lookout point. There wasn’t much to see from there but I think I can see the other wall of the castle. I quickly grew tired of the castle since there was much more interesting view right in front of me.

Not too far from the Rheinfels Castle gates, there is a lookout point where you can see the Rhine below. This section of the Rhine has been lauded as one of the most picturesque and I would agree with them. It helps that the Rhine has carved out a narrow gorge and you can easily get a view overlooking the river. This stretch runs for several kilometers and it is no surprise the castles have sprung up overlooking the river. It is because of this beauty that inspired cultural movements particularly in the arts.
