When I first arrived in Köln, it was already about noon and I was hoping that I would be able to check in quickly and drop my bags at the hotel to make it easier for me to move around. Unfortunately, I arrived a bit early and Hotel Brandenburger still need another hour to get the room ready. I did manage to drop the bag with them, so that was a literal load off my shoulders. I went around the Köln Cathedral area and managed to get food from the Christmas market right beside the cathedral. Soon, one hour has passed and I head back to Hotel Brandenburger. Sure enough, they were ready for check in.

You can tell that this is just a small hotel but it seems that they are used to doing this. I was assigned to the top floor, and the building doesn’t have a lift. It was only three floors and I can climb that but I think it would be difficult for some people, especially those with heavy luggage. I was also informed that I booked a single room with shared bathroom. I didn’t realize that I booked on with a shared bathroom. It has been a while since I got this kind of room and I know it takes a little getting used to since you can’t use the bathroom whenever you want.

Fortunately, waiting for the bathroom wasn’t an issue for me since I would be out for most of the day and in the times that I would be there, I only had to wait only once. There are other shared bathrooms in the other floors though, which I didn’t need. The bathroom itself was tiny, but it served its purpose. It has a toilet and a shower area with door so I don’t make a mess. The bedroom was also small. The bed apparently was just long enough to fit me and I’m not even tall. I shouldn’t complain though since the prices here are quite affordable. I like how close it is to the train station without all the busy-ness that comes with a train station. If I ever come back to Köln, I don’t mind staying here again, but I will probably make sure I go for a private bathroom.
