Close Up Look at the Dolphin at Algarve

I am no stranger to seeing dolphin. I have seen the one television, media, and in person but of course these will be only in water parks which have dolphins as part of their attractions. In fact, just a the previous day, we got to go to Zoomarine which has dolphin shows as part of their attractions. I would like to believe that the dolphin are treated well but we will never know. As part of the tour the Algarve package which we chose we specifically chose one which has a dolphin watching activity. I know it may not seem like a very exciting activity if we are just watching but this is the first time I have been on these dolphin watching trips, so I was quite excited to join.

Of course, the dolphin watching is primarily for the kids but big kids like us can still enjoy them. Our tour operator has found a pod of dolphin off the shores of Albufeira. I was actually quite surprised how close they were to civilization, I thought that would have preferred to live much further out at sea. They have a boat which served as a scout for the tour operators so all the tourist boats will just go to the scout when they are ready.

It was actually quite an experience to see the dolphin in the wild for the first time. The boat’s engines were all turned off so as to not disturb the dolphin. There were several of our boats here just floating and watching the dolphin go about. There is also no throwing of food to the dolphin so we don’t change their behavior. The dolphin were basically just playing around but unfortunately, none of them leapt out of the water. Still we did get very close to them, most of them would be in front of the boat but some of them would be by the side. I actually got a very good look at the dolphin and I thought that it was amazing. I didn’t know that such trips can have such a magical effect. It is good to see that these dolphin are all alive and well. To think that they live so close to the shore is probably a testament to how well they are treated. I don’t think they would stick around if they were hunted down.
