Dolphin Watching at Algarve

Dolphin Swimming in Front of Our Boat

I was actually excited about the dolphin watching activity on our boat tour at the Algarve Region of Portugal. Our tour guide was actually a marine biologist and he was expertly telling us all about the area, this includes rocks and cliffs which I would think that would be beyond his specialization. But he was talking a lot about the dolphin and it seems he knows a lot about them and their behavior. We were told that it is very seldom that a tour would end up with zero sighting of dolphin. The way they set it up is another boat from the company would be out at sea scouting for the dolphin. So whenever the boat on tour are ready, they just head over to where the boat is and there will be a guaranteed dolphin watching.

I was actually a little concerned that we will have to go look for the dolphins but apparently, they already knew where they were. Our boat moved away from the coastline and started speeding to the middle of the sea. It actually took us much longer than I thought to get to where the dolphins where and I was surprised that they were able to find them in such a large area. Maybe the dolphin have a favorite place to be so it would be easy to remember where to look for them. By the time we got to the spot, there were a few boats also hanging around just letting their own customers dolphin watch. By this time, the boats have turned off their motors, as you well know, the sounds of motors underwater can be very deafening and we definitely do not want to disturb the dolphin. So it was just like this that we dolphin watch, the boats and people were all quiet and we were in awe just watching the dolphin play.
