Harvard Library

It seems that the buildings at Harvard University aren’t very inspiring. While they did keep the old buildings, they don’t look very inspiring at all and I was going around feeling underwhelmed. I understand that this is a school after all, what did I expect to see. But somehow thinking that this is the best university in the world, I probably was thinking that I would expect more to see here. I know this is a learning institution, but maybe they would have something for outsiders to see. At Harvard Yard, there is a building which is a little different. This one has a somewhat neoclassical look, primarily the columns and it tells me that this is a special building.

The Harvard Library sits on one end of Harvard Yard. These days I would think that the library would be something which is obsolete since you would be able to look stuff up on the internet these days. For sure there would at least be part of the collection which is already digitized. However, considering the volume of their collection, it might take a while. Consider this – Harvard Library is the largest academic library in the world, it is also the large private library. In the United States, it is the fifth largest library. Digitizing the entire collection would certainly take a while.
